"Treat others the way you would like to be treated yourself."

Our Curriculum - Parental Advice

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. The learning and development requirements comprise of:

  • seven areas of learning and development and the educational programmes which set out what will be covered in each age group.

  • the early learning goals, which summarise the knowledge, skills and understanding that all young children should have gained by the end of the Reception year.

  • the assessment requirements (when and how practitioners must assess children’s achievements, and when and how they should discuss children’s progress with parents and/or carers).

The seven areas of learning include: communication and language; physical development; personal, social and emotional development; literacy; mathematics; understanding of the world; expressive arts and design.

Four guiding principles shape our practice. These are:

  • every child is a unique child, who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured;

  • children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships;

  • children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and/or carers;

  • children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates. The framework covers the education and care of all children in early years provision, including children with special educational needs and disabilities.

Our termly curriculum map with the breakdown of skills and topics is attached below.

Parental Advice and Information:

Also attached below are documents which give parents a more detailed view of the steps in development we would expect to see through EYFS, from age 0-5.

Birth to 5 Matters and What to expect when? give information on the usual stages children go through and ideas to support your child's development at home.

I CAN Stages of Language Development helps to review your child's communication and language skills to see if there are any things you should be concerned about. If you do feel there is a concern, we are always here to help and will support you with any referrals that may be required. This also gives ideas on how to support your child at their stage.

Early Learning Goals - Your child will be assessed against the 17 goals at the end of FS2. These are not a test and we will make a judgement based on what we know about your child. These are an end point and not the curriculum for the year.
