Spring Term 2020

Maths

This term we have been continuing our work on Multiplication and Division. We are learning our 2, 5 and 10 times tables and enjoying practising them in lots of different ways. We have also started learning about Fractions. We need to recognise lots of different fractions such as halves, thirds and quarters. We have found that we can use our knowledge and skills from multiplication and division to help find fractions of an amount.

Follow the link below to have a practise of your times tables:

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/5-7-years/times-tables

We are looking forward to celebrating all things number related on Friday 7th February for NSPCC number day - we can't wait to see the creative ways in which we can dress up with numbers. Pop back for photos.

English

This term, we have loved reading Claude in the City. Claude goes on lots of adventures with his pal Sir Bobblysock and always ends up saving the day. We have written postcards, which are on display in the corridor, and reported the robbery in a newspaper report. We prepared questions and  responses for interviews with Claude too.

More recently we have watched an animated film 'Clocktower' about a girl who wears a dress with cogs.

Science

In Science, we have been exploring what plants need to grow. We have planted a selection of Sunflower, Pea and Bean seeds and made sure they were watered regularly and kept in sunlight. We are now observing how bulbs grow and investigating which one will be the healthiest.

History

Our theme is 'Castles'. We have been exploring The Bayeux Tapestry to learn the story of William the Conqueror and how he came to England and built the first castles. We have studied features of a castle and we are now looking forward to spotting them on our trip to Chirk Castle in March. More recently, we have been exploring the jobs that people did in castles and thinking about which one we would like to have done the most.

RE

'The Good News' has been our RE focus this half term. We have listened to lots of different stories about how Jesus helped people to understand he was the Son of God. Stories have included:

Jesus in the temple

Jesus chooses his disciples

Feeding the 5,000

The Ten Lepers

The Paralysed Man

We have used drama activities to help us retell the stories and imagine how people/ Jesus may have felt at the time.
