Autumn Term

So far we have covered Place Value including rounding to a million, we will now be using these skills to estimate in our new topic of addition and subtraction. Our next topic will be multiplication and division, so children must continue to practise their times tables- make use of mathletics and TTrockstar log ins!

We are currently reading Street Child (a story set in Victorian times) and lots of our English work has been based around this. We have written informal notes and will be completing diary entries and suspense writing. After half term, we will be studying William Shakespeare's Macbeth. In our grammar sessions so far, we have studied modal verbs, fronted adverbials, contractions and relative clauses- we are aiming to accurately use these in our written work!

In RE so far, we have looked at the story of Creation and compared this to The Big Bang Theory. We have also discussed our role as responsible stewards of the earth and Jesus' teachings.

We are currently enjoying investigations as part of our topic of materials and their properties. We have carried out experiments to see which materials make the best conductors and insulators. Our next topic is forces.

Our topics this term are invasion ball games (hockey) and Victorian dance - please make sure you have the correct kit for both indoor and outdoor.

Our topic for autumn is The Victorians, we will be looking at Port Sunlight as our local area study. Then we will move on to the changing power of monarchs and The British Empire, specifically looking at Queen Victoria.
