"Treat others the way you would like to be treated yourself."

A celebration for St George.

Date: 27th Apr 2020 @ 10:46am

During these strange times our Little Acorns have been hard at work at home, we would like to share with you their wonderful creations from this week.

Our theme was St George and the dragon. Mrs McDowell introduced a character from the story each day and she linked a task to it also. The purpose of all these tasks is to develop spoken storytelling skills. Encourage the children to role-play the story, using different voices for each character, to have fun!

Monday: we begin with meeting the Dragon; the task for the day is to make a dragon using recycled materials. Mrs McDowell used an egg box for the mouth, with fire from a Satsuma net, the Inside of an Easter egg box for the body and paper with triangles cut out for wings. Let us see what your child suggests, can they make a label sounding out the word d-r-a-g-o-n, can they count the sounds, can they listen carefully to how the sounds go together to say dragon, then write them down.

Good luck dragon hunting. 🐉

Tuesday: we carry on with our story by introducing St George. As he travelled back from the Crusades it is believed that George got his extra strength to slay the dragon from eating oranges, who knew! So today our task is to make St George and create an orange tree with 10 oranges growing on it .I wonder if you can count them carefully and maybe make labels for the numbers 1-10. You can also continue to tell the story using your dragon from yesterday. Have fun and try an orange for your snack, it might give you special powers too! 🍊

Wednesday: Today St. George reaches the castle and hears the news that the dragon has taken the princess! Off he goes (after eating his oranges!) to fight the dragon. Today the children were asked if they would like to make a castle. They could make the King, Queen or Princess too or just use small world characters that you might have at home to tell the story. Also have a go at sounding out flag, f-l-a-g , write a label and maybe make a flag for your tower in your castle. 🏰

Thursday: Happy St George's Day. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Today we will celebrate by dressing up as one of the characters in our St. George adventure. You choose, be as creative as you like (even be an orange tree!!!!). The children sent us a photo or video to add to our virtual St George Parade. Have fun celebrating and sharing the joy of St. George.

Friday: we will complete the Story of St. George today .The villagers were so pleased that they were safe from the dragon that they decorated their houses with bunting. Today the Little Acorns could make 10 triangles, put on a Red Cross for St. George and number them 1-10. Stick them together in order, counting carefully to make bunting. You could put them in your window for people to see as they walk passed. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Thank you Little Acorns for sharing your creations, it's been a great week of celebrating your talents, there was a lot of different tasks for you to join in with. You did that fantastically.

Enjoy Our Virtual celebration for St George.

Stay safe & keep well from all of the FS1 Team. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🌈🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
